Pilates was originally developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920's. It is a conditioning exercise program that targets the deep postural muscles of the abdomen and spine. This will improve core stability, flexibility and correct posture.
Clinical pilates is a series of mat based exercises which have been adapted by physiotherapists to make them more suitable for patients with any form of injury. It is an excellent form of exercise for injury prevention and for those recovering from an injury.
Clinical Pilates is run in small classes to enable the patient and physiotherapist to work together to ensure that the exercises are being executed correctly. Exercise can be adapted for specific patients according to their injuries and ability.
We encourage Clinical Pilates classes to all our clients to improve posture, strength and flexibility. Clinical Pilates in combination with correct back care, is effective to prevent the recurrence of back pain and other injuries, leading to improved quality of life.
